Das Kupferhandwerk ist sehr begehrt und zählt zu den ältestens Handarbeitsbetrieben in Ägypten. Kupfer kommt als reines Kupfer nur selten in der Natur vor und ist meistens als Minieral im Erz zu finden. Hat das Kupfererz genügend Miniralien wird es aus der Erdkruste abgebaut und daraus das Kupfer durch die Elektrolyse gewonnen. Durch die leichte Verformbarkeit lassen sich aus Kupfer die unterschiedlichsten Produkte herstellen.
